The neighbors(many) outside dog food supply has created some "super rats",,long fat looong tails. I live in the city,on the edge of the country(cattle farm). I have been using nuts and havok poison in rat rest stops,, i.e. tractor, jeeps, bush hog,to "control" the rats. My neighbor said his auzzie dog killed a huge rat. The rats were stealing some dog food. I can not use a firearm(law). Becides,,rats like it quiet. I saw a old "edge" magazine, it had a crossman co2/pump for 89$,,,,. I have a tasco red dot. Any recomendations on air guns? night vision?Laser?,,,lol flame thrower!!! Dam rat chewed a engine wire on a 93 Probe!
The other neighbor(nasty),has tons of 5min visitors,, and on the back deck,,a mountain of garbage! Some jamacia looking big league wannabe flashed a chrome semi auto from his booming car last night.,,long night.
Thugs and super rats,,,you might think i was back in S.E. Detroit!

You might also try a large 55 gallon barrel with the top cut off with about 12" of water in the bottom. Then across the top use a string to tie thin flat board across the barrel from both sides. Then place bait in the center. The rats will climb out on to the board. The board will swivel and the rats fall in.

Good call on the Benjamin, Steve. I used to hunt rabbits when I was a kid with a Benjamin .22 pump action C02. It had a six round magazine and would kill a rabbit with one shot. As far as I'm concerned, Benjamin makes the best air rifles on the market. You pay a little more for them, but they are well worth it!

McPumpkin, just got through a small rat problem myself this fall. Damn neighbors had a huge junk pile in their back yard. I dont have an air rifle, but have found a big rubber mallet works REAL good along with some of those super sticky glue traps.

I got a Gamo CFX for Christmas. It’s the first spring air rifle I’ve had. So far seems quite accurate and very powerful, 1000fps. The advantage of this gun is just one cocking motion for full power. The disadvantage that I have found is it has a substantial recoil and you really have to crank down on the scope mounts to keep them from moving. I tightened mine more than I felt comfortable doing but the scope stays in place now.
