I got so much crap in my 2001 diary it probably wouldn't even fit on a CD. 191 entries and only 247 pounds of pumpkin. It would be a good lesson in what not to do.

I love posting to my growers diary and reading (and seeing) what other people are doing. I don't live near any AG growers so I feel like the group of people at BP.com who keep their diaries are my "growers association". I think you can still be a "serious grower" and cut up in your diary.

svrichb.....I disagree. There is no room for humor in a sport where you grow a giant vegetable for fame and fortune.....G

G-Squashie,

I guess I meant "dedicated grower". About this time of year I hear alot of talk about no time for posting......do these people go to bed at 8:00PM or are they tilling their patch in the dark?

I neither go to bed at 8 or till in the dark, but I'll tell ya why the summer days are to short to keep up on the 'puter.
Woke up at 6 am, got the boys fed & off to school by 7:30 & I left for work. Got home from work at 7:45 this evening, checked my gardens, spent some time with my boys & set down to eat my dinner at 9 pm. By time I get the daily chores done it will be 11:30 at which time I'll pass out until I get up at 6 to do it again Wednesday morning. The only thing different about Wednesday is I'll have to mow ( probably in the dark) & my pumpkins ain't even starting to vine yet. By mid-July I'll be getting by on 3-4 hours of sleep a day & sometimes going 36 hours between "naps".
Sorry to vent on ya but lack of sleep makes me nasty & on occasion cross over to the dark side.................

Huff, just don't neglect those giant tomatoes, mine are recovering nicely from the frost nip and I expect to kick your experienced ass at the fall weigh off :]

what line of work are you in huff??

Paul,

If you didn't vent on me I would start worrying about you.

Whether someone keeps a diary or not is his/her own busiess I really could care less. My point is that my choice to spend more time on my diary does not take away from actually caring for my pumpkins because it's done late at night when I'm neither in bed nor tilling my patch.

My line of work is a truck driver, I'm a teamster employed by Roadway Express. I work on call but the last few days I've known ahead of time when I'll work. Normally they call me 2 hrs before I have to report & once I return home they can call me 8 hrs later ( 24-7 ).
Tell me how many guys on this sites wives would put up with you working a job where you NEVER know when you're leaving & once your gone you can't tell them when you will be home? I've been with my wife 19 years & she's a saint for putting up with it ( it's rough on my boys though)
And Brent, just because I vent on ya don't mean I don't like you.
I've beaten the hell out of ( and had it beaten out of me)by my BEST friends. I'm always telling one of the officers of the local union ( a good friend) that we ought to go at it just to see who would win. We would sell tickets & buy ourselves beer with the money after the fight.
And by the way...your diary never fails to make me laugh. But if Cleon comes near my patch I'll bar-b-q his a$$....LOL
I'm gonna make a post on my diary Friday, but I'll tell you this. The 744 Welty is growing like it's on steroids ( it's the real deal)..........Paul

Huff,

I've seen the pic of you with Arnold. I think if we ever got in a fight I would be having my post-fight beer through an IV. Maybe I can just be one of those friend you don't have to beat the hell out of:)

Come on Brent, where I'm from fighting is called " Male bonding".....lol
And Keith, my father was in the union & I remember going to the picket lines with him when I was a kid & watching people carrying guns to protect the lines....It kinda left a impression on me ( good or bad I don't know)

We usually settle for a few beers and a football game. Maybe next football season I will suggest fighting at halftime.
