so can anyone advertize their business on BP? Can I make multiple posts daily encouraging people to send me their money, too? All sarcasim aside, when does excitement over a new venture cross the line?

Relax guys. Making a profit is the American way ! There is nothing wrong here. The resulting revenue probably does little more then maintain the web site. No one is compelling us to click on anything. Would you rather be charged a fee for use of this site ?

They are not refering to that. They are refering to an outside party filling up the message boards. Then responding to his own posts.

I'm refering to WWGG. I want to be the first to say that Mark has helped out our club by donating seeds and bidding on and buying seeds from our auctions. I do appreciate his support of ours and other clubs. I just want him to know that he is starting to annoy people by promoting WWGG too much on BP. Hopefully, his venture can succeed without alienating anyone.

Don't get me wrong, a little self promotion for a club or group doesn't hurt anything, but it can get on the verge of getting to be a little excessive. When almost every board has a posting about the same info, then it might be getting to be too much. It's great that a club or group is doing well, but I'm sure some growers would appreciate it was toned down just a bit.

Yes I agree,I was asked by members to post on all boards.I was told they dont always check every message board as time is very limited for most in our busy lifes.I will try & cut down on this. I was just trying to be helpful.Time to head to the patch anyhoo! Some of the message boards were pretty dead and looked like they could use a jolt!Have a great season to AWL!

I think he was posting on all boards since he is not a 1 vegetable club. So the posts were for tomatoes on tomatoes, lopes on lopes etc. The news seemed great for those growers. No one offers what WWGG does for some of these growers. We all have been looking for ways to suport our sport without having to rely on the auctions here on BP. This brings in outside suport which is what we want. His sponser is probally one of the biggest contributers after RTI. In some of the vegetables its the biggest !! IMHO

Advanced Nutrients is primarily a Drug Growing Supply company!! I have checked out their website and what I see is a company overcharging for fancy named products related to helping grow ops increase their yields!! I am not sure a sponsor like that has any place in a family oriented hobby and website like this. Is that what we really want?

Thanks Dennis,In response to BPMaileys comment about company overcharging for fancy named products. We live in a Walmart world. Not my favorite store. You wont see them on our site.lol I just told a waitress yesterday to buy her Tomato plants at a local Cadillac high priced nursery. She said "There high priced" I said exactly Tonya. I told her they use BURPEE seeds which are bred to be disease resistant. She said really?I didnt know that.I replied Your going to do all that work and then try to save a dollar or on a plants & get low priced stuff, which usually gets blight by midseason.I let and oldtimer give me a flat of generic plants last year.It was my worst eating mater crop since I bought the big box store plants back in the 90s.For all the effort I put in my patch I will only use Top Drawer Products. Just my Humble honest opinion.

Personally I don't care what or whom the company that makes growing products sells them to, if they can help me grow bigger watermelons. Then I will and am going to buy from him or her, Let’s not get all self-righteous, we are a family friendly hobby that is what's important.
Mark has a great new website and he is giving away Cash and growing supplies in order to help the average guy get started. I think he is doing a great job myself.
There are enough growers that all the growing websites can help each other grow their membership.
Why this attack on someone trying to help the hobby grow , does not make any sense to me.
Come on guys let’s support Mark and each other we are all in this together.

Whats next No adds for the kins stores or clubs or tomato contest sites. I just think its personal. Heck if it wasn't for this new start up. It would of really boring around bp this winter. ( Mark is just like a new excited grower who posts a comment on every thread.(Me last year:)or pg3 this year. I think its fun to watch. Until some anti-fun people start to complain. He'll get bored soon enough. Then you can find someone else to complain about.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion. I'm not the only one who has been annoyed by the excessive promotion of WWGG. I'm not asking that he not promote his business at all, just not so much. I understand being excited by a new venture. That is why I kept quiet for a couple months. At some point he needs to know that he is driving people away from his business and not to it. I don't think Mark wants to drive people to ignore his posts (it kind of defeats the purpose of promoting his site). I just hope Mark can post more like RTI and Holand's Giants if he wants to be a business or like OVGPG or PGPGA if he wants to have a club. Is that too much to ask?

Driving people away from his business? WWGG membership continues to grow. Mark not only promotes his group but also encourages growers to join local clubs. I like to see and enjoy his posts. Everyone is a winner @ WWGG with a small fee. I say keep the posts coming.

You keep saying Mark's Business, He isn't trying to sell products here, and He is giving Money and products away.
His is a club, driven by members who care.
So why not let it go, and those of us that want to support Mark's Club do so without out your complaining, you said your piece so let it go.
If he was truly trying to be a business instead of a club, why give everything away to members.

Im not looking to argue,This is a conversational topic as usual.I do feel however I need to make one thing perfectly clear "I am not a Crook"LOL!Sorry I couldn't resist.lol Now That has no bearing on my next statements.Just having fun!Thats what this is all about. The only reason I set this up as a LLC is I was going it alone.I went to see a lawyer last fall.I said Tom I want to set up a membership on the internet and I want to make sure it is all legal.I believe in shooting from the hip and I dont want to get in any trouble. So Tom spent a couple weeks doublechecking while I gave his upstairs bathroom a lite makeover & and a repaint.I really dont think I compare to the business's on here as I do the Clubs. The LLC is just a technicality for legal purpose's.Im not making in money here folks,if thats not evident. Then please join another Club I'm not the one for you.You cant be all things to all people.Have a Great Season!!2013 Will ROCK! PUNK ON!!! & WATCH FOR RISING PRIZE'S

Just to be clear on this. I have no problem with Mark & never had. I commend him on all the work he has done to promote his club. I know that starting a new club these days is a lot of work & to be successful at attracting members you need to work hard at selling the benefits of joining it. I have to admit that if I were running a business that I would want him on my Marketing team for sure. He's taking the fundraising to a new level & I applaud him for all his hard work.

Mark is a great guy who is trying to advance the hobby.
I must say that I laughed at Bpmaileys post. I guess he has never puffed.
Brian there are thousand of giant vegetable growers all over the world from all walks of life. Some might even smoke the evil weed that offends you. Next thing you will be criticizing people who graft watermelons??? It's time for you to chill dude and keep your wacked out opinions to yourself.

Perhaps I was a little harsh, but I took exception to his argument that smoking pot is anti-family. Also still reeling from what I consider to be a very divisive campaign against grafting watermelons. I tried to explain the two categories to someone outside our hobby. They wondered if next year there will be a separate category based on geographic region or a separate category for those who grow organic or a separate category for those using shade cloth. I guess everyone gets my point.

Frankie, I agree with you about the watermelon growers club having two separate categories issue. I and many others feel it is insanity that there are two separate divisions. And Mark Clementz also feels this way. I will not join their club ever again unless this issue is resolved.

What really erks me is that the GWG knew it was a contentious issue yet they bullied their decision forward. Months later they flip flopped on the vine attached insane idea and could have ended this nonsense by retracting the two separate category issue. I encourage everyone who is growing melons to join the WWGG.

The final point is to use any way or product you can to get the biggest watermelon.
I think there should only be one category, whoever grows biggest watermelon wins, and shares their secrets with me.
If someone told me that gunpowder would make them grow I would be using it :)
