Last Spring I suggested in several posts to throw out those plants growers were starting early and plant new ones in Early May. Will those who used plants started before April 10, please post what those plants produced.

Len, when you talk about starting plants early, are you talking about germinating early or actually planting in the ground in early April? My thought was that you should germanate in late April and plant in early May.

Len I started one of my own seed (841 pistono uow) on apirl 1 it germinated. set out on the 8th. It was by far my biggest plant 1000sq ft. I produced 6 pumpkins all ranging from 595-350 lbs,. But my biggest pumpkin was grown on a plant in which I started on the 5th of may. All of my later plants did better. The first pumpkin in which I pollinated June 1oth did stay together until novmeber. The disadvantages Covering the plant for later frost is harder with a plant that big. fruit seems to age faster even if pollinated later if set on an older plant. All in all next season I won't start a plant untill the last week of apirl. .....Mark P
