Is it neccesary to file the outer shell off of giant pumpkin seeds? In the past I didn't do this and still seemed to get results, but I'm wondering if this was a disadvantage to the seed. Thanks for the help!

people file the edge to make it easier for the seedling to split the seed case open. the quicker it gets up and out the less likely it is to rot in the seed and not sprout for you. its not a necessity, but alot of people file. if you have any abundance of seeds from this years fruit laying around, maybe you might want to consider doing a germination test .....filed and unfiled and see how it works out for you.
