I have heard several growers talk about putting their seeds on some kind of heat source to germinate them. I have an old waterbed heater, would that work? Being new to this and not having many seeds to test, I dont want to mess this up. Any comments/suggestions?

it would work just as putting them in a baggie wrapped in a paper towell on top of youre computer or refrigerator as long as its a consistant heat source,hey if you need any test seeds or some decent genetics just hit me with a bubble ill help either way my address is keith barrett po box 394 mill creek west virginia 26280 burrhead

Waterbed heaters usually have a built in adjustable thermostat. These could be very good if the temperature remains fairly stable. By that I mean that the high & low thresholds need to be close together.

Plug it in. Place a thermometer on it & keep tabs on it for several hours at least.

You might wish to place a towel on it to moderate the heat.

I have used a heating pad. Also a old incubator. They both have thermostat on them . They both worked great. I just put a thermometer on them to get the right temp. Water bed heater should work great.

huh, I should try germinating seeds along side our waterbed mattress. The wife keeps it too dang warm in the winter.

Thanks Keith, I think I might just take you up on your offer for the test seeds and some genetics to cross with my seeds this year. I will get you a bubble sent out this weekend. I'll email you later. Tremor, I took your advice and played around with the heater this evening and when set at 85 degrees the pad feels pretty hot. It fluctuates between 82-85 on an actual thermometer. I'll give 'er a try and see what we get. Thank you all very much for the advice. Mike
