January, 05, 710 Gipe, testing indicates that our projections were correct. This testing barely got 50% germinated. Some, of you, who said you were growing need, to plant, more than one seed, to assure germination and strong emergence.
I think, by this time, next year the 710 will be done. It's purpose well served. We are now looking, to the 845 DiMarko and what will be crossed with it, to be the flag bearer.
Two crosses are planned to the 845 DiMarko X 1995.5 Beachy and the other X 944.2 D. Llloyd. (19.5% heavy)

1995.5 Beachy....man that was a dandy typo. Try 1095.5 Beachy.

Dwaine,
I'm sorry the 710 germination rates are dropping. Didn't your last test yield about 70% germination? Are they stored in a freezer?
There are many theories about how seeds develope & at what stage in developement which factors help or hurt seed viability.
Sun Spots, lunar cycles, nutrients, temperature, etc are all thought to play a role.
My interest is based on the recent discovery of some very old seeds I need to try to germinate. Will post updates as they become available.

Well cripes....third time is the charm 1097.5 Beachy is of course correct.
We have posted several alerts, to the expected lower germination rates of the 710. The reason is simply a premature withdrawal, of seed, clearly discussed, in diary and in these lines from time to time. Almost all, of the seed are, in the hands, of growers, for that reason. I mayu have two dozen total in reserve, for what reason I am not sure. :)
We have maintained the direction, of possible genetic pleasure or improvement so there is little need, to wish we had more 710's.
