I started all my seeds last Friday night, using the file, soak, paper towel, zip lock bag on the computer monitor method. All germinated in 48 hours except my 1068 Wallace. I put it back on the monitor and continued to check it daily. Finally, tonight it shows some life (120 hrs after filing and soaking). The cotyledons have emerged from the seed coat, but there is no root coming out of the point of the seed. What do I do? I am worried about trying to open the seed coat for fear of damaging this valuable seed. I am afraid to plant it in case it needs help! Please help me. John

wow, what a quandary. the only thing i think you can do is take a risk and try removing the seed coat. find a point along the edge of the seed where you can carefully slip the tip of a screwdriver, something with some WIDTH to it, into the edge of the seed.....and gently twist it apart. it may be possible for the radicle, or root, to be pushing on the inner tip of the seed, unable to go out the usual way...is this a "breach birth"? for lack of a better term. good luck---chin up! you can do it!!!!! eric

what you have to do is coach it, start yelling at the top of your lungs PUSH!!! (lol) just kidding i wouldn't use a screwdriver use your fingernail i would think that there is more control that way. just my 2 cents...Ryan

I opened the seed with my fingernails, it opened quite easily and the root was bunched up in the bottom of the seed coat. I planted it in pro planting mix. we will see in a few days if it will be ok!
