Opinions please. Got a couple seeds (my own) showing this Conan the Barbarian spiked war club looking radicle. They are very unlike the single runner radicle of most seeds I've seen. Are they mutants or aggressive buggers?
Thanks for any input and good luck this season,
Duff

I had two last year like that....... they turned out to be my two biggest fruit. They also took their time germinating. You can look at them in last years diary......... good luck

Duff. Indolebutyric acid has the same affect. Roots treated with IBA tend to grow more laterally. They can look very much like a small inverted shrub, very bushy.

In your case higher natural auxin concentrations may be driving the roots out in all directions away from the APICAL MERISTEM(root tip). Normally the PGR response is balanced to benefit a tap root while the laterals are surpressed.

The jury is still out how good this condition may or not be. However IMHO, I believe more roots make for bigger fruits.

I've seen this happen a couple of times. I think that the "main" root is somehow damaged but the seed still germinates and grows pretty much normally. I'd say the jury is out as to if this is good or bad... Steve's post is incouraging.
