I posted the same message somewhere in the general board. So I apologize for repeating the same question. We started two pumpkins in peat pots and they did not germinate yet. What would be the longest time to wait for them to germinate? We had tomatoes, watermelon and sunflowers germinate in the same medium. Watermelon are already planted. They were so big I could not keep them any longer in the house. I guess I am asking what could the maximum time be to wait for these pumpkins to germinate? One was from a pumpkin that weighed over 1200 lbs. My son was really hoping to grow one over 500 maybe as much as 800 lbs with that one. Thanks signed, really bummed father and son.

From what I've seen 8 - 10 days,,,I would "gently" check the seed in the pot,,,pick at the medium "gently" and take a peak at it,,if nothings shows promise keep "gently" excavating and give it a "gentle" tug,,if roots are down it will resist. Cover it back up "gently" and wait. If you have the heat right and the moisture correct it will pop.
(key word= GENTLY) good luck

yeah, what he said.
i tried yet again to sprout the 920 Cole to no avail and i gave it 8 days to show some sign of life. 88 degrees seed starting mix from Scotts with Bio-Grow Endo Plus mixed-in and that is what i always aim for in that department.... it was not sprouting, and the seed is legendary for being hard to germinate. so i would say that 8 days should be the MAX before digging around to see what is up.(i would do some inspection at 4-5 days on seeds that do not have a reputation). you can dig alongside the seed with the tips of a normal-sized pair of forceps without disturbing its progress if you are careful enough-----eric g

I agree , 6 to 8 days at 85 to 95 degrees is normally the max time you would expect to wait. Years ago I did have one sprout after 11 days...... Then again I've seen a lot come up after 2 days.
Of course you don't need to use a seed from a pumpkin over 1200 pounds to grow one yourself over 500...... Do you have back up seeds in ???

We had an 845 Bobier seed that took 12 days last year. After 10 days in a baggy I gave up on it & tossed it onto the cable box to make room for other seeds on the germination mat. Two days later I went to throw it away & the fool thing had popped.

Some good info here thanks. I know that you do not need a seed from a 1200 lb pumpkin to get a 500 lb one but this is for my son. 500 lbs will beat our best ever from last year and he would like, if possible, to get 800 lbs. This seed was the most promising that is why I mentioned that one. Yes we do have several backup seeds. My teenage son is the muscle and I am the financier of our garden. Thanks for all the info. Good luck everyone growing this year. Any more information is certainly welcome.
