chances are, the seed would germinate normally; half a race car (the front, lol) could still get to the finish line if it were front wheel drive. i would give it a try, especially if the front of the packet says '1068 Wallace'. yeah! no, i have not actually tried to do it, but i still believe in my own statement---eric g

Not yet but I've been tempted to try ever since a viscous mail sorting machine incident. In theory the radicle end should work.

I did last year. It was half a 1003 Mackenzie* seed. It germinated but died as a seedling later. As long as it's the bottom half it should germinate.

You know what Gordon, try and germinate it and if it comes up plant it in that patch of yours and you will be sure to grow another huge one....what is in your soil??

thanks for all the replies. I got a email from Beachy who said he's had done it. He experimented with about 10 half seeds, they all germinated fine. The seed is a 1233 Reiss. also yes- you can only use the half with the tip (radicle). Ken -yup it was the seed we replaced for you. Thanks for sending it back. I was thinking of giving it to a friend of mine this year, but only wanted to if it had a good change of germination sucess.

Gordon, Id say it will work, I germinated the 1097 Beachy with a real nice size hole that went threw both sides of the seed shell( both cots). Grew my 845 lber.
