It is day 6, at least, and my seeds have not sprouted yet. I thought I read somewhere where germination is only about 3 days. { which seems rather quick to me }Should I be concerned? Most seeds are from 2005 and one from last season.

Hi Lisfisher There is still hope for your seeds, as long as inside the seed coat it is not mushy or slimy. You are right 3 days does seem very fast for seed germination, but when you provide the exact conditions that the seeds need i.e. perfect temoterature and perfect moisture conditions, they germinate in 3 days almost like clockwork. If your soil temps are cooler than that they will take longer than three days, which is fine except for the fact that the longer the seeds sit in the soil without sprouting the greater the chance for rot. On the other hand if temperatures are to hot, The seed will get cooked and turned to mush inside. If you can spare a seed, break one open and see if it is still firm inside. With all that being said, if I were you I would start some back ups. The guys who grow these things are always prepared for these kinds of things and always have a back up plan. By September a couple of weeks delay in May, will long be forgotten about.
