I didn't realize I had to soak the seeds before planting.Am I doomed or should they eventually sprout?

You are fine, I never soak the seeds here. They go right in the potting soil.

Well I just dug one seed up and it did in fact split open at the end and begin to sprout, but I accidentally broke off 1/4" part the sprouted. It broke right at the end of the seed.

Tremor - thanks for the offer but I think I'm all set. I have 7 other seeds planted that should be coming up any day now, plus some plants someone locally has offered me. Thanks!

I broke the radical off one of my seedlings when it was only a 1/2 inch long and it sent out more ..kind of a club root thing ... I planted it and it came up fine. That is rare though.
