I have always started my seeds in peat pots, this year I filed them as normal but wrapped them in a wet paper towel, put them in a zip lock bag and placed on top of my vcr where its warm, this was last thrusday..1 week ago..how much longer do you think it will take for them to show a little sprout? thanks!

just put them in the soil. the paper towel method never worked for me and really doesn't make much sense. you get the same result either way except you can see the sprout coming out in the baggie. why risk the possibility of having the seed rot in a constantly wet atmoshpere. just my opinion......

80-90 degree temps are critical..if it is 60-70 degrees the seeds will germinate very slowly if at all. There is a much higher chance of the seed rotting before germination. Mark

I have a flat digital thermometer that I place on my propagation mat. If you can find something like that you can check you temp. I tend to agree with Mark,you were either too hot or cold.

with proper temp, the paper towel method will sprout the seed in 24-48 hours

If the paper towel was wet...well there ya go...it should be only damp...same squeeze test as with the starting mix, 2 drops is 1 too many. Hope this helps. Peace, Wayne

I set a seed as a demo in a paper towel last w/e and it sprouted in less than 48 hours. Not too wet is the secret. Just Damp.

I took four test seeds removed the shells layed them on a damp paper towel and covered them with a damp paper towel.
Then placed them in a 85 deg container. All four sprouted in about 36 hours. What seems to be the secrect is the 85 deg. I'm not sure what I'm going to do with the real seeds yet.
