File off the edges of the seed but stay away from the point of the seed. Slide it into a seed starting mix that contains no soil. I was coached to slide it into the medium at 45 degrees. This is intended to help the plant throw off the seed casing often times under the soil. The seed medium should be damp favoring the dry side. The starting box temperature should be about 85 degrees. You will see plant in three to five days. A few days later you should see true leaf. At this point go to the garden under cold frame. I like to use gallon ice cream boxes as a pot. The roots will jam up and bind themselves in four inch pots if you are not very carefull.

I like to experiment and have tried many methods. This pure and simple method works for me.
