anyone use infrared lights to heat the baby plants at night? i've heard conflicting info about them. some say they work fine, and some say that they cause stem elongation. Hmmm...anyone had any experiences with them?

I think Ben's got a shot of one in his diary... in the house with his 3 880s.

Too soon to tell the overall effects.

Is that a wireless thermometer transmitter in there too?

Brigitte, I used infra red on some "different" plants once to keep them warm in a "safe" place, and I did exp. elongation...well I didn't, but THEY DID

I'm using a restaurant heat light for germination. Its a long tubular red light. A master gardener I took a gardening class from ,used one to germinate all his seeds. He felt he got bigger plants from the red heated light, and that it also gave him some interesting mutations of the flowers. It will be interesting to see what effect it will have on pumpkins.I did get 100% germination success on my test pumpkins.

Good tool Ben. I picked up one of those on Tuesday.

Fun to know what the temp is in the hoophouse at any given moment.
