and the next one bites the dust.... Man that weather sure screwed me!!! Cold cloudy weather with 110 liters of rain (4.3") followed by 24°C and sun today caused a growth spurt on this one.... this one was the 869.5 Calai. Forgot to mention that the last one that split yesterday (pic also in gallery) was the 846 Jutras. Now I sure fear about my last two healthy ones (the 670 Daigle and the 801.5 Stelts). I measured them today and will see tomorrow if there is significant growth. If there is lots of growth I consider cutting away some vines or even cutting a part of the stem off to slow them down and to avoid more splits. Another option is to harvest one of the two fruits very soon to get an official weight as long as it is still in one piece. Like that I would at least have one official, undamaged pumpkin. I would then let the other one on the vine in the hope to keep it from splitting until the weighoffs so that I can enter something there. Going the safe way with one (harvesting it soon) and going for broke (letting it grow till the weighoffs) with the other one seems like a good idea to me but I'm not yet sure. What would you do? I now only have two solid fruits left!!!
