What is the main point of this dave? You have "buttloads", but you want to know who has more?

The idea is to obtain as many current year seeds and hold on to them to see what they produce. If you asked the right growers for their seeds you are holding on to a bunch of proven seeds the following year. The more growers you ask the better your odds.

If every grower just grows one pumpkin and harvests even
3 seeds from it, then it would still be too many seeds for the collective pumpkin growers to plant unless we maybe get China involved but even that wouldn't work very long.
Who cares what seeds people plant as long as they have FUN growing the plant?

Silly thread here!

Bears,
Your idea is probably the opinion of the majority of growers including myself but at some point we all end up with too many proven seeds to plant and they should be given to new growers or any other growers who want to plant them instead of sending them only new unproven seeds. By now I think everyone at bp knows my view on this and I'm proud that I have sent out or at least packed up over 75 bubble packs of seeds for people with my own seeds and others proven over 1000lbs.
Best regards all!
Michel

If there were just 100 people growing AG's, and each of them grew 4 pumpkins, each of which contained 400 seeds, at the end of year one there'd be 160,000 seeds to be planted the following year. Assuming a germination rate of 75%, there would be 120,000 plants grown the following year, each producing 2 pumpkins, and another 400 seeds each. At this rate, at the beginning of year three, 96,000,000 seeds would be planted.

Keeping the same germination and planting rate, year four would see 57.6 billion seeds planted.

Assuming each plant grew to 1000 sq ft....

Lawman,
You are good!
I can't figure out what 2 plus 2 is!~ LOL!

....but I think we both agree that there are way way way too many seeds being produced and not everything can be planted unless we have exponential growth in the number of growers that can grow the seeds.

I tell two friends, you tell two friends etc...Ha ha!
Best regards,
Michel

So long as a parent/child team is willing to get an unproven seed dirty & grow it to 150 lbs, then there will never be too many seeds. Unless they're sitting in a sock drawer or freezer that is.

i think he meant he has "buttloads" as far as he's concerned. a dozen seeds might be a lot of them to a new grower, but anyone such as myself who has just a feeeeew more knows that it is wonderful to be able to pick and choose from as many as possible. to answer your question,
dave(7), WE ALL ARE! lol-----you'll know soon how nice it is---------------------------------------------------eric

When i started growing seriously i think i had 4 or 5 seeds to choose from that was 5 or 6 years ago, trading seeds sending out bubbles to other growers and bidding at auctions my "collection" is well over 600 coin envolopes more then i'll ever grow (only grow 2 plants a year)but like eric says its nice to be able to choose:)John
