dave...I think putting some 895.5* genetics in the mix would be a good idea, in my humble opinion.

and if you can't get hold of the 895.5* you might be able to get a 986 Hester 00* UOW, or even a 534.8 Andrews 01. They are both the same cross as the 895.5*

986 and 534.8 wont likely keep it green however.

552 Sherwood would be *real* good! You'll have trouble getting your hands on a Lyons....

I'd be less supportive of using a 900 lyons if only because you may get orange. The 552 would be great, as would such unknowns as April Engel's 834Gadberry x 552 cross, and my 834 x self.Jim Sherwoods squash from this year have me salivating more than any others though....if you want to stay the course with mostly 900Lyons based squash. Don't overlook the 748.5Zach Koch seed ...a 900 that went green was mixed into the 895 Hester and that seed grew a 900plus this year. There are many many 895/900/552 and other 895/900 selfed seeds out there of low contest wieghts that would be worthy of growing but you'll have to buck "the world is flat" mentality that currently rules the hobby as far as seeds worth growing is concerned. Why not just self that Larue seed and do it the right way...you'll get the same size and shape fruit but complete one step towards a stable line for your future squash growing or someone else's?............G
