kelly klinker and i were talking about the 1016 and wondering this a few weeks ago. its a good question for you....what would be a 'comparable' seed to trade ? 1097 beachy?? or is that not enough ? i mean what has comparable value ?
(dont worry, tom, i dont have any of those BECAUSE of that barbarian...and i never would trade your stuff, LOL).

Ed,
I selfed the 1016 last year after it refused to pollinate with the 898 Knauss. (3 aborts!) It grew a nice round, orange pumpkin that weighed 619.5#. It won the "Howard Dill Award" at Ohio Valley for the prettiest pumpkin. If you don't find a 1016 and want to grow my seed, send me an E!

there's always the 1230, it's the same cross as the 1016... same plants and all. It has grown a few over 1000 too. I don't know why it hasn't gotten more attention, it has the same genetic possibilities of the 1016. Tom

Hi everyone
Thanks for the replies
To Christy: Comparable value is up to each individuals perception. We all have our preferences and hunches when it comes to these things.Would I part with a 1097 Beachy or a 1104 Hester for a 1016, Hmmm...I would have to think hard about that. Oh well if I am not successful in getting that proven "orange" producer, I hear there is a promising unproven 915 out there that might do the trick.
To Jim:Lets see the 1016 refused to have anything to do with the 898. Talk about trying to fix up beauty and the beast lol. Thanks for the seed offer.
To Todd: I'll have to check in on the auction. Thanks for the info.
Tom: I have to agree with you about the 1230, but for some reason or other I prefer the 1016.
Peter:If you decide the 1016 is not in next years plans send me an e mail and maybe we can deal.
Thanks everyone
Ed

Ed, I don't know if you're interested, but on the Howard Dill website, there are seeds available from a Dill pumpkin, that is the 1016 Delatas X 1016 Delatas (sibbed).

It seems the 1016 has a fair amount of variation in regards to the intensity of orange it throws.
