There are several seed auctions coming up on BP.com. Keep your eye "peeled"!

Don't want to break your heart but 846 Calai's go for 500+ dollars. The other seeds are still obtainable. Shannon

I don't think there were too many seeds that came out of the 953 Langevin. If memory serves me right, most germinated inside the pumpkin.

Jim,
It's obvious to me that if you are looking for an 846 Calai that you are a fairly new grower.
Almost any decent cross seed can produce a thousand pound pumpkin and you might think of taking some time right now to bring in ammendments to your patch and make sure your soil is great and that you have pest and weather protection for your plants this spring.

The bottom line I'm trying to get across is that you already have some great seeds but the seed is only a small part of the total equation.

So if I was looking for an 846 on this board, then I'd be classified as a fairly new grower too?

Might I note that the 846 Calai has never grown over 1200 lbs.......

I agree with Michel. I think sometimes new growers are too caught up in obtaining all the top seeds. One needs to put more attention into "sweat equity", that is, building up a rich healthy soil and complete "program". I'm sure jim308 already has seeds capable of 1000# plus, unfortunately, not all of us can break 1000# in our second year like your Uncle Chip!

I believe 20 or 25 seeds total out of the 953. I do have one of them and it's for trade if someone wants to make an offer.:) Jimmy

I meant no disrespect to jim308 at all.
As many of you know I have for the past 3 years
planted the same seeds that produced world records
but my own results were far worse!
The 845 Bobier 00 I planted in 2002 was the smallest
recorded pumpkin from that seed at that time.
My 582 Hester rotted at 595 pounds and my 1097 Beachy (God rest her soul) was killed when I didn't protect her from frost last year as well as 1016 Daletas, 842 Eaton, 712 Kuhn and many others I'm too ashamed to list here!

I had an 1104.5 Hester that I gave away to a respectable grower in the states this year because I know that my soil and climate just can't produce anything huge so I'm happy planting seeds that just produce nice and orange pumpkins.

I would love a thousand pounder but I know that it doesn't depend on the seed as much as it depends on my soil and how I protect my plants.

All I'm trying to say is that it's a real load off your back when you quit freaking out about obtaining a certain seed and just enjoy growing what you have. Obviously if you don't have any seeds you need to try and obtain some though and there are tons of great people here who will send you their seeds for free.
Best regards to all,
Michel

What all you guys talking about 1000+? May be jim308 will make a "remake cross" only?
