I'm sure I'll get laughed at for this but hey....it wouldn't be the first time LOL. I'm looking for an 801.5 Stelts to cross with my 810 Dill, 1048.6 Companion, and 869.5 Calai. One problem....I blew my budget on the 810 and traded away most of my "hot" seeds I had for the others.
I'm willing to trade the lifting ring I have now or build one per your specs for a chance at an 801.5. All aluminum or steel, fixed length or adjustable ratcheting straps, TIG'd, MIG'd, or stick welded, 6 straps, 8 straps, 20 straps, whatever it takes. I'd even be willing to toss in a few seeds if that's what it takes to get one of these rare seeds. There has to be someone out there sitting on a few of these?!?
Now that you're done laughing, send me an email if you can help! :-)

I have no idea what I would charge for one. I guess it would depend a lot on its design. Ratcheting straps are spendy if you need 6-8 of them and so is aluminum bar stock. Materials cost is one thing but time is something else. To build a ring that I would consider to be high quality out of aluminum takes some time. Steel is easy to work with and a breeze to weld but aluminum gets a little tricky if you want do it right.
I'm not really looking to make any money as I just don't have the time necessary to make a bunch of lifting rings but I would definitely find the time to build one or two for a shot at an 801.5. Long story short, I would charge an 801.5 for the prettiest darn lifting ring out there!

Brian knows how to design and build, and is experienced in welding. My bet would be he'd make you a very nice and unique lifting ring easily worth $250-300.

Yes, the PGPGA does make lifting rings that work just fine. I consider the ones they sell similar to the one I made for myself.....functional and cheap to make. I realize an 801.5 is not your everyday seed so the lifting ring would not be your everyday ring. If I build it the way I have in mind, I guarantee you wouldn't be disappointed with it.
I'm not going to try to sell anything to anyone. I can't afford to pay 500 bucks for an 801.5 at auction and don't have the seed stock necessary to trade for one so I threw this out there. If I find someone willing to make a deal, Awesome!! If not, at least I tried. :-)

pgpga lifters are small diameter rings. I prefer a larger diameter lifting ring

i would think that an 801.5 would be at least worth a 6/4 titanium lifting ring. why not, the strength of steel at the weight of aluminum. or better yet, a carbon fiber lifting ring ......
its only a matter of time

801s trade for nearly $500 at auction now. So maybe Mertin's 801xself offer is the best bet.

LOL, titanium is a pain to weld and damn near impossible to cut with the normal carbide blades found in most cold saws. Just the tooling to cut and machine the titanium would double the cost of an 801.5, let alone material costs. Titanium is some pretty sweet stuff though.
You are right Steve, they do. Some people probably think I'm nuts for even posting but I've seen crazier offers on this board. There may just be someone out there with a lot of seeds and no lifting ring who doesn't want to shell out the cash to buy one or pay to have one made. All I can do is throw it out there and see what happens.

One more thing I forgot to mention, thank you all very much for the generous seed offers. The way it's looking, I may just take you up on it! :-)

dude, all the genes are there in the 869.5 and the other two you have; try one of those unproven seeds that are just laying around and maybe you'll get a surprise. i mean, the biggest thing the 801.5 has produced is about 1109 or so, absolutely fantastic seed it MUST be, but there are other seeds in the bubble pack. have you SEEN the offspring from the 869.5 Calai? and the offspring from selfing it? only a matter of time until someone grows a biggie from THOSE genetics. and as blood-orange as the law will allow! all that now said, good luck! eg
