Hello All, I'm pretty well set with a good line up of Ag's for this coming year, but I am very interested in obtaining some seed of 'c. pepo' or field pumpkins that have a track record of getting big (over 100 lbs.) Thanks in advance of any help.

Hey Russ, Grew some of your seeds this year. I had problems with fruit set, but I got the 539 x 3 generations self to set a tiny fruit. Anyway, I think what you are looking for is a Gold Rush or Gold Medal from Rupp Seeds. I saw a field of Gold Rush in Illinois that was way way bigger than what Rupps claim. I didnt see any that were under 70 lbs.

Doug I would bet they are C. Maxima most likely Prize Winner or Big Max. What Russ is looking for are C Pepo unlike C maxima they turn from Green to Orange when mature. They also have hard stems.

Doug: I think shannon may be correct because they grow yellow and turn orange when mature.I bought a pumpkin in the 200 lb. range and saved seeds from it.The pumpkins you see in my diary are from that seed. They are a very nice orange red color and grow very well.If anyone wants any just email me. If you want Big Jack-O-Lanterns go with Gold Rush, Jumpin Jack or Howden Biggie.
