Why is 900+ the magic number?

Heck Tom, I would be happy with seeds from a 723 pound or 845 pound pumpkin ;)

Evan...what these other growers are trying to say is it is not the size of the pumkin, its the genetics behind it and if that seeds been proven to produce. I prefer big and orange, others prefer heavy and ugly. The way to get seeds is wait until fall and send seed requests with self addressed stamped bubble packs. You will get plenty of quality seeds. Or wait until the auction periods and support a pumpkin club...Shannon

i was told and have read that even with seeds from a 900 pounder that there are other factors involved in growing such as climate soil care etc just becasue a seed comes from a big momma does not nessaserily mean your pumpkin will get that big and i also read that sometimes smaller pumpkin parents produce bigger pumpkins. Im a newbie this yr and i will tell you this im going for big but also cautious of my growing area and climate when it comes to choosing my seeds for next yr but i wish you the best of the best and hope you get your seed and many more and when you do grow a 900pder then i will eat my words lol have fun grow big all

hey the 21 beachy grew a 800 some pounder and it grew me a 82 pounder but that is because the plant was not the greatest from the start but i had just put it in because i started it and i wanted to finish it.Plus lets just say my uncle jerry's 1370 did not do good for me either. But i can not say much because i have the 1225 jutras,1036 perez,1125 frantz, and 980 razo so all the seeds i planted was 900 and over but also have the genetics to back them up and they all have nice pumpkins on them. Hi!

We just started growing pumpkins this year and so far we haven't had much success. Don't know if we overwatered them or what but they have been a disaster. I will be looking for some seeds this year but I am not to worried if I don't grow a huge pumpkin as long as if grows preferably to a half decent size so that we can exhibit it next year at the local show.

If any one has any growing tips please send them as this is the only way we are going to learn.

Thanks.

Suttonian, I grew AG's for the first time in '04 from commercialy purchased seeds. Spent last winter hanging out at this site and asking questions. Lots of good info (growers diaries are full of tips). One of the best things about this site is the sharing nature of the people. Any time this nu-B asked questions, I received answers. Lots of caring and sharing types hang out here. Read, learn, and don't hesitate to ask questions. Peace Wayne
P.S. Lots of seeds become available in the late fall too, for the price of a bubbler and postage.

It's best to grow seeds that will throw the characteristics (genetics) you like or are proven. A seed from a 200-500 lb pumpkin can throw just as big of a fruit as a seed from 1000+....it's all in the genetics, not how big the mother was.

Does anybody know where I can get some Zucca Melon seeds? I submitted a photo of them to the gallery. These giant melons were once grown in Osoyoos, B.C. for the production of candied peel used in fruit cakes.
