This is my first year with my son growing big pumpkins and we grew a 375lb AG. I'd like to trade for some pumpkin seeds but feel my unproven and small(in these circles)pumpkin seeds would'nt be what people want. How do new growers get a chance to trade for seeds they might want? Do you trade other things besides pumpkin seeds? What other things do people trade for? Thanks for the help -Creek

Generally speaking, most growers will give freely of their current season's seeds without a trade. Start watching the new posts in the "seed exchange" boards. Send the grower a note with a self addressed stamped bubble pack envelope (SASB) & see what happens. Some of these unproven seeds get grown & throw big the following year. After a season or two, you have a worthy seed collection & can start trading.

You can also patronize the many seed auctions that will start turning up over the winter. These benefit the many growers associations.

Joining a growers association in your area is a really good way to get a worthy collection up & going & you & your son will meet many fine growers & friends.

now that too me is a big pumpkin and to think you now get to name it after yourself and newbies like me will look at your pumpkin in awe you should be very proud of your pumpkin and belive it or not there are newbies who will ask for seed and you can always offer up some of yours as for trading i have nothing to trade either but in a couple yrs will have some more experience and a better seed stock so my advice to you is ask politely for seeds like i do and grow a big one each season save some of the seeds and give some to newbies to try growing a monster and if all else fails me and you can trade next yr when i grow bigger then my current pumpkin lol have fun and if i grew a pumpkin of that size i would be jumping for joy right now

You don't need to limit yourself to joining a local growers' organization. Some clubs, including the GVGO (www.gvgo.ca), allow non-locals to join and receive seed packets. You may not get the very top proven seeds. But, I'm pretty happy with what I got from our club.

Thanks everyone for all your advice. I'll watch the seed exchanges and yes if someone would like one of our seeds e-mail me and we'll get that going. We are going to our local Half Moon Bay pumpkin weigh off this coming Monday so the seeds won't be ready for a little while. My son and I are members of the GVGO and have some great seeds from our $20 membership.(What a great deal! and a great club.)It's all so new with lots to learn. Where do we find the closest growers association to us here in California?
