First Timer

Welcome first of all to this screwy hobby of ours. The 723 and 1016 are very rare seeds right now and without a lot of money or winning one in an auction or trading one for a 65 Mustang you probably wont find one. There are plenty good seed out there so look around and stay tuned!

The 1016 has produced a couple more big fruit this year but they mostly go light. Auction prices were over $100US for them the last two years.

The 723 can go as high as $500 each seed. It did not disappoint Andy this year. Most lilkely it is the best seed of all time.

Theres lots of seeds out there with the genetics of the 723 or the 1016, probably even both together. Unless you have some pretty amazing soil, and are ready to take a run at 1200lbs your first year out, I'd try to obtain a seed or three from pumpkins with the genetics you like, without having to mortgage the house... my 2 cents, anyways.

In respones to all of you out there that responed to my request for the 723 & 1016. I guess I was dreaming. We planted a 1196.uow D. Hampton seed which did not make it and a 1179.o uow T.Kline seed. Which we were able to grow several good size pumkins for our first year in the hobby. We kept three pumpkins on the vine just to make sure one would grow, probably should have only kept one. One came in at uow of 275, one uow 319 and the last one ouw 550. Not sure what would've happen if we would have just kept the last one. Also grew a griant squash in came in at 419. Took off really fast then slowed. I think this winter we are going to improve our soil, we live in CA. and we have this adobe clay dirt. Not sure what to add to it our the ratio's of what to add. We do have free access to mushroom compost just have to get it to the property. Talking to some farmes about getting cow manure, we have some horse manure, and will try to get some sand brought in. If any one out there has a good soil mixture and with ratio's let me know. No sense in buying the best seeds if one does't have really good soil. Will continue to read the message board for everyone idea's. I'm sure not all of them work ut the more we know the better growers we will become.
