After this season, I have come to the conclusion that there is really no rhyme nor reason to the "home court" advantage on seeds. Some seeds support the theory that a seed/plant will climatize to your patch, but just as often, or more often, they do not. To my knowledge, I have not grown the largest fruit from any of my seeds except one (the 1028). A few prime examples, the 582, my best with it is a split 855, and it has gone 1458, My 1104, my best is 895 and it has hit 1420, my 895sq, my best is 896, others over 1000 now, and even my 2004 seeds, I planted 3 of my 1144's. My largest was 400ish (hasn't been weighed yet), and it went nearly 1200 pounds for Pete Glasier in California. I guess I am saying that it is still prudent to go after good proven seed. Yes, plant a couple of your own, but do the leg work, research the genetics, and go after seeds that have proven they can do it. Remember thats the ramblings of an old crusty grower.
