I have a friend that is worried that other growers will think he can only grow a big one from a certain seed. Keep in mind you can only grow one plant and have done really well off this one seed for 3 years. I told him not to worry about it and plant the same seed again next year, but he wants to try another seed to prove to the rest of the growers that he can grow big off another seed. Just wondering what your thoughts are on this, he has one seed left and its getting up there in age 2000 seed, I say ride that horse until you have no seeds left. Similiar post to Brett Hester's plant proven seeds versus your own unless you have the room, Again this grower plants one seed.!!!

If a seed grew for me what it has for your friend 3 years in a row,I would be looking for more of them. If it's not broke don't fix it...by the way,I still have the one I won last year in Niagara.

How many years in a row did Kirk Mombert plant his 567??? For that matter, how many years did everyone else plant his 567??? LOL If the fastest horse is still kickin', why get on a donkey?

If I were Bryan I'd definitely try the 805 again. I see absolutely no reason why not. It doesn't matter a thing how one gets that huge pumpkin! Why would one want to try another seed and taking chances?

I would plant it again, and again, and again. Forget what everyone else thinks, if it gives you satisfaction...go for it.

Stat eand world records keep going up because the genetics keep getting better. If you don't use the new genetics which are moving ahead, you will fall behind!

I say to tell him grow it again, only in 2006 cross some color in and grow from that in 2007.

Bottom line, when you look at everything, it's all for fun. I agree, who cares what he grows. Grow something and have a good time doing it.

I would say that given the success with a single seed, it wouldn't be wise to stray far geneticaly. It could be good to try one of his own seeds, or a favorite cross involving his seed. Possibly pick his favorite 805 offspring, then grow that, and have a friend grow an 805, then cross the two, and try the resulting seed the next year. Or you could go back and forth either way, have him grow the 805, and the friend grow his seed, just to make the crosses, and try moving forward genetically. Other option is grow the top two offspring of the 805, and cross those two combining the best of what it has done. Try the 1373, or 1327.5 and cross the two The next year grow the resultant, and cross it back again with the 805. Or, simply try 1373 x 805, or 1327.5 x 805 If you are worried obout space, or other concearns, you could have him try the 805 again, grow either 1373 or 1327.5 in a 5 gallon bucket just to make male flowers and pollenate the 805 hoping for an improved 805 genestock for the next season. Lots of creative things that can be done, key is work with what has done well before, only picking out the best of it, and trying to improve upon it It is great to keep growing 1300 pounders, but I am sure you want more than that.
