Of my 3 biggest fruits one had no viable seeds and the other two had way below average counts, I have to count. Obviously heat is a factor unless others have different theorys. I pollinated on relatively good days and didnt get the hot weather until about 10 days later. Dave

Only 1 of 8 had good seed count, it seems to be the case all over this year?

All my controlled pollinations were in the 200 - 300 count range with one at only 3 seeds.
The only one, that I had that was an open pollination, has a seed count well over 600.

I experienced just the opposite. My largest was open pollinated and only had a handful of mature seeds. One of my controlled pollinations was done on a 90+ day and probably had over 600 seeds.

Only 90 seeds came out of my 884 ESt pumpkin. The pollination period had above average temps this summer.

My seed counts were all over the place. 31 in a 791 pounder, 70 in my 947, 250 in another, 300+ in a couple, and 600+ in another (688 pounder). Each plant had the same treatment. The two that went the heaviest and are the ones I'm most interested in had the fewest seeds!

Out of the 4 pumpkins in my patch, only one produced a lot of seeds. The other 3 were duds. I'm glad it was my biggest pumpkin that had lots.

I had low seed counts across the whole patch, in big fruit and the smaller fruit. The above average temps were great for growing, but perhaps not so good for seed production.

less than 60 seeds from my big one, average counts in most, about 60 seeds in another small one, and i got 6-700 in a couple smaller ones.

There were 7 plants in the patch where I grew in this year. The owner of the patch had a very low seed count last season and was instructed to raise his Manganese level in order to help with seed production. Well, in spots where manganese was added seed counts were good. The only place that they were low was one spot that did not receive the addition. Don't know if that was the only reason for a better seed count but you can't just dismiss it.

My seed count for the 845 was very low,I only have about 40 seeds left after sending bubbles out and was going to keep 20 seeds for my personal stock but it dont look like I will have a personal stock left, lol. I was very dissapointed in the seed count of this pumpkin and the 699.
Dave, you think the heat does this? How do we know for sure its the heat? It wasnt that hot when i pollinated.

Way low seed count here too. I dont count the seeds but I usually get 1.5 to two quart jars out of a pumpkin I got almost a quart jar out of one and a pint out of the other. Oh well what would I do with 600 seeds anyway???

parthenocarpic, although i don't know the origin of the term and only know what it means to US, means "no seeds in it"., lol, and environmentally-INDUCED just means hey, the weather did it! or the soil, or the....the environment....eric

One year when I had way too much fresh manure put on in the spring, seed counts were OK, but seed quality was lousy.

Not many seeds here. Since it absolutely couldn't be anything I DID, I'm going to blame it on Global Warming.

seed counts varied greatly independent of the pollination dates....723,700 seeds from the ones no-one wants to less than 100 for the ones people might want. Squash averaged over 700 and big pkns less than 100....two pkns grown from squash seeds were 579seeds and 539 seeds>> I found that curious.... higher than pkns, lower than squash. Seed counts in test/semi-field grow-outs were 250-400 seeds. I have a further observation that I haven't done research for but my overall impression is that seeds this year are definitely smaller and thinner than usual. Especially smaller ...even more especially in the inbred lines.

Our Sibbed 823* had over 250 viable seeds while the 823* selfed had only 10 viable seeds... The pumpkins,,,,well who cares about them.... Still havent opened up the 1205 La Rue crossed with the 1048 Companion pumpkin yet as the deer are chewing there way to its seed cavity as I type.

Had 0 to 333 seeds from 16 pumpkins f0r an averaged 165. Which is very low. Haven't looked at temp/pollenation day, but did notice that there was very heavy dew many mornings and the pollen was damp.

I had no viable seeds in my 1186 fruit. 917 in the same patch had a very low count as well. The 546 est ( 894 Pukos x self...3rd generation selfed 846 Calai) had a avgerage amount in the same patch. The 1042 was in a different patch and had the most seeds out of all the fruit...maybe 500 ish?? Not all of them are perfect tho.
