FYI, I just received a bubbler unscathed by customs from Ontario. Hopefully this is a good sign for seed trades over the border this year. Anybody having any troubles yet?

I received a large box of seeds that went through the leagl phytosanitary process from Canada this week. About one third of the envelopes had been opened for inspection but everything was neatly reassembled. Well...pretty neat. At least the inspectors made an effort.

From Post Office in Ontario to my door here in the UK just 4 days. That is quicker than our internal Mail system !! No problems with US or Canadian Customs this time so all is great from here. So Far.

Just to remind you, sending seeds from the US to other countries is NOT the problem. There won´t be an envelope containing seeds being refused to forward to a person in the EU and other countries. The problem is to get seeds from outside the US into the US. If it works, you have luck. If not, don´t blame the person who tried. The costs of a phyto certificate etc. will make the usual way of sending these "normal" seeds impossible to individual persons - unless you have a good budget to do so. Maybe with that "christmas rush" during the next days, the chances are a little better.

Writing on that custom-label "Do not plant - for exhibition only" would that work?

The proble is not with the seed itself, as you say Exhibitiob only, it is with what the seed may be carrying, The U.S. government want to make sure no harmful bacteria or spores are catching a lift on the seeds. The pyto situation sucks, but it is what is needed, so we have to do it. I take several bubble packs of seeds in to be inspected at the same time. The last inspection I had done had well over 75 bubble packs, I requested 3 addresses in the U.S. where they were going to. From there the gentlemen at the receiving end will mail the bubbles out to the U.S. growers. All three pyto's cost $5.00 each and a one time inspection fee of $7.00. So for $22.00 I was able to send, as I said well over 75 bubble packs to the U.S. safely, and for an Extra 30 cents a bubble pack, which is quite resonable So it really is not that expensive, and now that I've done this for 3 years now, it is quite easy(still sucks). It gets expensive if you do only 1 bubble.

Eddy, Thanks for the explanation. You should be commended for your compliance with the law, and your extra care in making sure the seeds get where they are going.

Eddy,
The seeds got here too! Your note to the inspectors paid off. They weren't as neat as WE would have made them but the inspectors clearly respected your wishes & did a good job with repackaging.

I've sent a few packs from Canada to the USA so far and have had no issues. I sent one to Duster in California and one just recently to pumpkinpal2 (good ole Eric) in New York. They seem to be slipping through just fine.
