Jordan you have spunk...But in a post as recently as yesterday you stated you were moving and did not know if you would be able to plant. Like I said way back in October. Do the footwork and the homework. Show me the results and I would help you get the seed you desire. I think your desire for this seed has soured your reputation for a lot of growers. Shannon

I suppose it would be a waste of time to tell you that you could grow any number of seeds and you're going to get the same result...due to the fact it's your first year. The 1469 isn't about to magically grow you a 1000, you need killer soil (have that?), and experience (have that?). You might as well grow whatever you already have on hand, it's just not going to make a difference. But I suppose telling you all this is a waste of time, huh?

Coming into last season the 1446 Eaton was the current world record, it didn't produce a new world record. I don't believe the seed of a world record pumpkin has ever produced another world record, at least in what we might call the modern era. Why the 1469? Why not the 1354? You could probably find a 1458 Whittier without alot of trouble, thats a BIG pumpkin.
I think you should listen to what Kyle and Shannon are saying, plant anything, grow it to the best of your ability, learn, work to improve your skills and your soil for next season. Do you have a plan for what to do with the plants this season, other than what seeds and crosses you wanted to do?

A side note: the 827 Holland (1992 record) grew the 884 Black (1993 record) and was the maternal grandmother of the 990 Bax (1994 record)... But Jordan, I do agree with Kyle and Shannon, use the seeds you have now as your lab rats, then when you've figured out what you're doing, go with the "good seeds". Chances are, every seed you have has great genetics, just not a big name. There are more seeds out there today with world record potential than there ever were before. Learn from our mistakes, Jordan. I planted an 869 Calai my first year (before it was a hot seed) and I couldn't even get a fruit set on it. Learn the game first, then get the star players. I have a 1469 Checkon that I won't be planting this year. If you can make a solid effort to improve your soil and skills, send me an e-mail in the fall and we can talk about the 1469. All I ask is that you post pictures of the condition of your patch regularly in your grower diary or photo gallery. If I like what I see, I'll consider openning my seed stash for you. Tom
