Jorda, Good luck on your first year but please listen to voices of experience that are/will be telling you that you cannot grow 25 plants and expect anything of substantial size. It takes a lot of work and you are going to quickly get overwhelmed and have a patch full of weeds, untamed vines, poor fruit placements and sets, and mostly open pollinations....which in my opinion are worthless seeds to any grower that cares about genetics. You are best set to grow several plants so you can do things right, and have enough time to study the plant...it's habits, how vines grow, how fruits develop, what the plant needs (it WILL tell you if you pay attention and listen). With 25 plants you're going to be running around so busy that you won't learn much (like not growing too many plants), nor will you get that big pumpkin you want. Most likely, you'll end up with a slew of 100# pumpkins, that are open pollinated, and the effects of a frustrating season which often causes newer growers to abandon the hobby. I've done 25 plants before and it took up an INCREDIBLE amount of my time....my wife and kids never saw me. I managed a few 400# fruit but only because frustration from so much work led me to abandon any care on all but 2-3 plants. I vowed after that season that I would never do it again and I seriously thought of taking a couple years off. This year I'm growing 5 fruits and I believe that I really should only do 4...but it's hard to sit on a once-in-a-lifetime seed until next year. I still have my doubts tho....because I know how much work it's going to take on those 5 to reach my attempted goal. Just remember, you've been warned. Good luck

Jordan, why dont you listen to other growers. 25 plants is way too many. You are so set on Checkons 1469. Do you know that Larry Checkon only grows 2 plants and his wife Gerry only grows 1 or 2 plants. If Checkon is your inspiration than do as the he does. Just my 2 cents worth, Kenny B

Jordan, I agree with souther. If you have a good plot, grow one or two. Then, if you have a field somewhere and you just want to see what happens, throw in the rest of the seeds (hopefully not the best ones) and watch them, but pay attention to that 1 or 2 in your best area. Good luck

jordan, like everyone is saying 25 is too many plants to give attention too, not to mention that 25 plant will require a LARGE amount of room! and water.

Jordan, everyone is stupid about what they don't know. That's why we go through the trouble of learning things. Don't let it bother you. We all had the same questions when we started, whether we were 13, 30 or 50. There are some really experienced growers on this site. They will help anyway they can. When you have that 500 or 600 pound jack o lantern at halloween it will all be worth it. Good luck and enjoy.
