This is just a general curiosity of mine concerning the 1068 wallace.
what seeds are poeple giving up for one. I've seen the ridculous prices they run at auctions. As far as i know the 1068 is worth more than a 723 bobier the best (in my oppinion) seed in the world. So what is a 1068 worth in a seed trade?

just as in Top Fuel drag racing, there are always a few that are always out in front and then there's that ONE that hits the nail on the head that day and is far above and beyond all others...my belief is the 1068 is worth at LEAST two of any other seed that has ever gone over 1445, lol, let's say, as there will always be the CHANCE that one of them is the REAL silver bullet and has that extra charge in it that will cause it to far exceed (exseed) its previous 'personal best'. case in point the 723. what was its previous 'personal best', if you will, before the 1407 Wolf? hmmmm, i dunno. wish i had AGGC at home... anyway, MY nickel's worth---eric g

Your question was what is a 1068 worth in a trade?
First, you would be very lucky to find one in a trade because if you already have one it going to see soil.
Second, it generates so much money at auctions because of one thing and one thing only SUCCESS -- lots of pb and over the chart results from growers at all levels, plus a world record first pumpkin over the 1,500 pound barrier
Third, we have never traded a 1068 seed with anyone. we have given them to the best growers in the world and have been known to also send the seed to people who just asked nicely and such. Plus up until this year also donated them to many club auctions.
Unfortunately, like anything else as the demand continues to outnumber supply the seeds value will continue to rise at auctions etc.
Personally i believe there are more world records and a 1,600 pound barrier left in the remaining seed stocks.
its just like eric said " and then theres that one "
In a few years a new #1 seed will make the scene. The 1068 seed will be a piece of pumpkin lore. Thats whats great about this hobby.
Ya never know what the next big seed will be until enough people plant it.

If you try to compare the auction prices then the 1068 has sold for $850 once & $750 twice this year. The 723 is next closest as $550 (if my memory serves).
Like Dick said, something new wil come along. A few years ago the 845 Bobier was selling at auction for nearly $400. Today it commands half that amount.
The next HOT seed is already out there somewhere. The right growers need to get it dirty before we know which one it is.

The next hot seed may very likely be found by the RI growers, or other regional growers(following RI's lead) who dedicate a season or two to a seed they think has good potential.

Just so you all know you saw it here first, the new hot seed is the 444 Wickless '06.

thanks for the help guys. It's just kind of interesting to see a great seed generate some much interest. The 1068 is probably the most sought after seed in the world. I just can't wait to see what the next "tail gate buster" seed will be.
