the wallaces gave there two 670 daigles up for our auction to help raise money for the sngpg this past month.
we may possibly want to pollinate a 1068 with the 670 next summer.
anyone have a 670 they can verify ? and if so i may be interested in working a deal for the 670 by sharing the 1068 x 670 cross offspring seeds with the owner of the donated 670.
its a new form of seed sharing im instituting here. two growers, each has an interest in the others particular seed, one shares a needed seed cross with the other to make the cross.
the cross they both want gets grown ( by one of the two of course ) and they both split the seeds that are produced.
would work really well also for growers who have small patches. these small patch growers get twice as many seed crosses when there efforts are combined.
obviously the two growers in question would need to have faith and trust in one another.which is what we all should strive to build in this hobby.
kinda like two growers from next door sharing pollen but in this case your sharing a seed with someone many miles away, but with the same end result. a cross you could not have otherwise made.

Here's an even better idea...I have a 670 Daigle that I'd like to cross with a 1068 Wallace. Send me the 1068, I'll make the cross and I'll send you half the seeds!

Pap How about a 670 Daigle, and instead of you sending me half the seeds, you send an equal share to all the clubs to distribute to their members or to auction off, as they see fit. My 670 will be an original from Dennis Himself Eddy

What an offer Eddy! If this collaboration takes place, it would be between two of the most generous growers there are.

Frank, it was white. Hard plant to manage. It wanted to grow upright and broke many a vine. By the time I got one to set it was too late.

Frank, I do like the idea of crossing the 670 with the 947, then I could pollinate the 1068 the Pap is going to send me with the 670 too! Since it was your suggestion I'll send you 10% of my 50% of the seeds.

ice-man, great idea...but give some of us new-B's a chance...was gonna buy the next 670 that came up on an auction, and then offer it up for Pap&Son to grow...LOL Seriously, for 1/2 the seeds, which I would gladly give 3/4 of back to clubs, and auctions, I would buy one. Peace, Wayne

Wayne I haven't slept since the comment, I've been on medication, and now you say "meant no offense". Is it really just that easy. By the way, Doing a job that requires working nights, so I haven't slept yet, and I took an aspirin for a headache. LOL No offense taken, now it's time to sleep, cause I have a habit of rambling on and on when I'm over tired. Eddy

Thanks to everyone for the response.
I have found a 670 in my own back yard so im going in that direction.
No need to worry though. If the cross gets made at the wallace patch it will be available in some form during the 2007 winter.
I would however encourage growers to work together on this sharing of crosses as mentioned in earlier post.
Thanks

Personally I would rather have one of my big name seeds grown by a heavy hitter like Pap rather that me growing it and getting nothing worth while. I like this idea. It should promote good crosses and if you give it to someone like pap you know it's being put to the test.

Excellent post Pap, I have been looking at our 2007 line up pretty hard and would love to cross some of thos RI genetics into some of our own WA genetics, like a Gadberry 410 from 2000 (810 Dill by 1061 Zehr) x say a 1501 Wallace? We have grown the 410 several times and it allways throws thickly ribbed long orange fruit with white seeds and black vines. Just seems to be a BIG disjointment from your side of the States to ours.....

Hey guys, thanks for the compliment. Theres enough pressure and disapointment in everyday life so lets enjoy this hobby while we can. Do whatever each of us can to help one another. if you folks make friends with growers in your area experience and results will improve as well. Pap
