I am the lucky winner of an 848* in the GVGO's raffle.
Rather than grow it myself I would like to GIVE it to someone who will make a better job of growing it!
If you fancy growing it, please say what you would plan to cross it with, why you would do a good job of growing it, and how many of the seeds we can have back for a UK based seed program next winter!
Best reply gets sent the seed!

Malc,
You may want to send an e-mail to Phil Hunt at gvgo@sympatico.ca, and have him hold the seed. You can direct him to send to someone else. This will save the postage and the chances of loosing it in customs.
Just my thoughts John

I would also enjoy the chance to grow the 848*.
My attempt for a cross would be with the 1046 Van Rompaey.
why would i do a good job of growing it: my eagerness and dedication to growing a large pumpkin.

I've been considering a 611 Hester x 848 MacKenzie to get the green genes back into the 611. The 611 is 900 Lyons x 737 Stellpflug. It would be nice to get those old Stellpflug genes in combination with the 848. If I make the cross with your 848 I will send you half of the seeds. I'm in a relatively new but well prepared patch this year, so it shouldn't have trouble growing something nice. Tom

Malc, I would like to be considered for the 848*. I have had my desires on a "true" 848* to cross with the 1053 Werner 06*, a 848* X 898 Knauss to create a "SUPER GREENIE" !!!. Kriss-Crossing both into each other would create two variations of the giants reenforcing the 848 genes adding the thick walls of the 898 Knuass and doubling your club seeds. (This could create a greenie genetics that could take us into the 1200-1300lb range)....... I would also want to bubble out seed to other growers wanting to give it a try, learning from Darth Pappy Marketeering Inc. So everyone could grow green...... I would be willing to share the naming convention of Malc-Grande like the Carlson-Peterson duo, we could come up with something unique there. I will also be growing the Van Rompaey 1040.6 at Hudson Botanical Gardens and am desiring using true 848* Male pollen to pollinate this lineage of greenie, ....seeds too 2 B available. Pictures will be displayed within the diary and the seed, if Im lucky enough to be chosen, would be planted at Jareds nursery where Ole LongBeard, my bro JimBo, and TheWiz have worked the soil and did their fall patch prep. adding in over 10 truck loads of supermarket produce waste, 150 bags of leaves, molasses, 6 yards of diary cow, humic acid......the whole maguilla gorilla....... See my 2007 diary(coming 2day)pics of Jareds under the white nitrogen (snow). We use Agro-K and grow organically, we, I mean ... LongBeard.....lol... got him a Stihl mist-blowanator to use. We are as serious as a 1068!!!, and want to grow BIG. I really do want a 848* MacKenzie straight up for this venture. Please let me know if I can be of further assistance, I hope we can team up on this venture. Thanks TheWiZ

Malc: I would grow the 848 in as part of my 10plant 07 season! 5 squash & 5 pumpkin, I am dedicated to growing only true green! I havent fully decided my selections yet? I lay awake at night dreaming of the perfect cross, but in reality it comes down to a plants performance & available pollen, (I like to use the most vigorous plants to pollenate) after removing split & questionable seed , I would send 50%... Im a man of my word! & my mother was born in RAINHAM ESSEX.;) DBH

Thanks all for your interest in this seed. Wiz, your enthusiasm for this 'sport' and some of your crazy longbeard/beachball/wizardnator posts make me laugh a lot at the end of a hard day at work so I am really disappointed not to be sending the seed to you. Cook and Kevin, I am also gutted not to be giving it to a European grower.
It may sound stupid, but for putting me right on Mitochondrial DNA (see http://www.bigpumpkins.com/MsgBoard/ViewThread.asp?b=19&p=184252 ) it has to go to Tom (Hey You). Email me (malcolm@morleys.net) with your details and I will get Phil Hunt to send it to you directly. I hope it grows an extreme squash. No worries if it doesn't!
