I am teaching a high school science class on growing AG's. I need more seeds to use for an experiment on different germination techniques. I am looking for a large number of "practice" seeds; they will never see the dirt. Also any ideas on variables to test. I would love to germination 5-10 seeds per kid, that means I am looking for about 500 seeds. It would be great if they were from one source, if not I would just mix them up.

Hi Chad, some variables you could test- mold growth on seeds treated with H2O2 or ethanol vs untreatd seeds Root mass for seeds with beneficial fungi added to medium vs untreated seeds germination rate as a function of temperature germination rate as a function of different light wavelengths maximum plant mass without introducing seeds to growth medium
These are a few things I think we could all benefit from figuring out. Please post your classes data when it becomes available. Best of luck! Jim

Take it 1 step past the experiments.. Have the Kids actually plant some at home... That should get them to remember your class for the rest of their lives!!! (And their parents!) I still remember the Chickens in 1st grade, Tomato plants in 2nd grade, Cooking up the squid and Cutting up the deer in High school. Just think the surprise they'll get when these beasts take off!!!

We will be planting an AG at the school and maintaining it through the summer, we have school year around. I will be using the AG to teach germination, genetics, reproduction for plants, plant and soil characteristics and many other topics. Should be fun.

Chad, It sounds like a very good idea! Hands on experience, instead of just looking at diagrams in a book.
