Hi All, I am a new grower in Alaska and I would like to try growing a giant pumpkin. I got one seed from a great grower in my area, but I would like to try a few more in case that one doesn't work out, or just to compare. Thank you very much.

Not to open a huge can of worms here, but has climatization of AG seeds really been a proven thing or is it more of just an assumption.
I think it is a bit misleading to label certain seeds hot climate or cold climate without some scientific proof.
I would imagine that seeds from JD's pumpkins grown in Alaska would do just fine in any cold or hot climate without labelling them cold climatized.
Just my 2 cents.

They won't climatize in our lifetime, but some, for some reason, do better in more extreme conditions than others.
I wonder if any seed does better than another in a colder climate. I think (some) squash tend to. The Canadians and some Europeans here with a bit of a cooler climate tend to do well with squash.
On the other hand some pumpkins tend to stand up better in hotter climates, that is less wilting, etc.

I would do an experiment to see if a "hot climate" seed would grow up here if anybody had one for me to try.

I think that maybe some of that hot climate/cold climate (at least in Alaska) might have to do with the short growing season up here versus longer seasons elsewhere.
