I was interested in plants with big vines, like the 860 Bowles. I'm also interested in finding other seeds that are known to produce big/giant vines, like the size of a arm, wrist, big end of a baseball bat,,I would like to try and find some like that this fall, maybe you can tell me the name to ask for so I know what to ask for this fall seed exchange season. Thank You

I Think it has more to do with soil preparation, Early Seedling Care than specific genetics. I have 5 818.5 Engels planted this year. Each plant is a little bit different than the other. Stem Size, Leaf Size, Pumpkin Shape all vary just a bit.

I did have one seedling, it had a stem the size of my little finger, it was only 3 weeks old, and I was very excited about it, it did die but it was bigger then usual, I managed to over water it.

969 Ailts was also a monster vine plant. I grew it last year and have seeds from my 400 est. 3 of those are growing this year and all have FAT (huge) vines.

Genetics of the 969 are 845 Bobbier x self.

1213 Foss was 1314 Beauchium x 845. So good genetic backround. Unfortunatly the 845 seems to have stem problems on the pumpkin that need to be dealt with.

If you contact me this fall / winter I'll send you some seeds from that plant if you want. Or I can bring some to the Stillwater weigh-off. The 969 was a great looking fruit also.

Yes, thank you, I will either email or be at stillwater, to watch not bring pumpkins, unless they have the pumpkin resembling a lemon contest.

Bigger vines don't always mean bigger pumpkins. Vine size, OD, seems to be effected greatly by levels of OM and available N in the soil.

Last year my largest pumpkin was grown on the plant with the largest stump and vine. This season the 940 Mombert '00 has what is easily the largest stump and main vine I've ever had in my patch, but of my 10 plants it has the slowest growing pumpkin.
