I have heard that you can plant seeds flat
can someone please tell me if there is any advantage to planting seeds flat? I thought that they should be planted with the point down.

The seed coat will come off by itself rather then having to manually remove it. Not sure if that is an advantage or not (I guess it is if you have big fingers and break the seedling trying to remove the seed coat). I plant mine pointed end down but I've done it both ways.

I plant them flat. I can't stand fiddling with the seed coat.
