I am looking for a couple of seeds that grow well in my area, southern Ohio Lebanon. I don’t have much to trade with but I would be happy to return some seeds from our 2008 crop if it is successful. My wife and I have tried for the last three years to grow a giant pumpkin. We have not done well but we have had lots of fun trying. Last year 2006 we were able to grow 250 #, this year we thought we would do better. 210 # not what we hoped for but we had problems with powdery mildew on leaves.

Hey PDittel,
Having locally produced seeds that have a track record for simplified growing isn't a bad idea but you'll never advance your goal without a decent preventive pest control program. It doesn't need to cost a lot of money either.
If you have a decent compressed air tank or backpack sprayer you can make weekly sprays to the leaf undersides with a 10% milk solution. This will virtually eliminate Powdery Mildew at very little expense.
Atlsntic Giant pumpkins are already more resistant to PM than other cucurbits but they still need our help to reach their true potential.
