This may sound stupid to all you expert pumpkin growers out ther ebut i am new to this and have puzzling question if you can cross a pumpkin and a pumpkin and you can cross amarrow and a marrow does anybody know if it is possible to cross breed two flowers and produce a new type of squash as they are both from the same family. Please let me know what you think.

yes you can it is recommended that you don't plant same family plants near each other for a few reasons first many insects and diseases that effect one plant in that plant family will effect all plants in that family second you risk the chance of cross pollinating with another related plant getting an unwanted hybrid this might not affect the fruit but the seeds from that fruit may be sterile or something other than what you want a few years back i planted zucchini and yellow summer squash next togather late in the season some fruit became large and then were hit by frost i tilled them in and the next spring i had squash plants growing i saved a few they looked like summer squash but were hollow like gourds and thick skined like gourds
