The 1110 grew 2 pumpkins over 1000lbs last year. Both weighed 1095lbs. Pappas and Urena were the growers. It's in my lineup to see dirt this season.

I liked it, it was an extremely healthy and vigorous plant for me that produced a nice orange fruit. I'd love to grow another one day. If you can't find an original 1110, your welcome to some of my 464's = 1110 X Self for a SASB.

The GPC Home Page lists a 1259.5 pumpkin grown from the 1110 Wallace by Armand Michaud of Ipswich, Ma. I saw the pumpkin at the Topsfield Fair. Nice shape and color.

Frank,
Keep cutting until the Chainsaw barks... Trees are way overrated anyway. If they are Pine trees you will need to do alot of work to get the soil right but other than that I wish you a great growing season!!

Safehouse, can you explain about the pine trees and getting soil right? You got my curiosity up now.

Pine needles make soil acidic.

Why would pin needles make soil acidic?

Just my two cents worth, around here some people spread pine needles around their rhododendrons and azaleas, being that these are acid loving plants. After years of needles falling in Autumn, the surrounding soil tends to be acidic.

Nothing scientific here, but my dad used to mulch in his strawberry bed, each fall with lots of pine needles, said something in the pine needles would kill the weeds...still spent lots of time pullin weeds from around the berry's!!! LOL I have noticed that around the pine trees in my yard, that grass don't grow well, maybe lack of sunshine?? Peace, Wayne

Andy's answer is the closest I can come up with. The PH levels in my folks garden were very acidic. A pine tree had grown there for 20 years and the first year garden was sparse.. I believe they amended it with Lime and brought the PH up to a more neutral level 6.8-7 and had much better luck the next year. So, Get a soil test done, They will make recommendations for you to get the PH where you want it.
