Does anybody have any info or input on seeds for small hard pumpkins. around 8 10 inch diameter as solid as possible. this is my second year growing or should i say trying to grow giants. I am also a chunker and I figured some of you might have some info of knowledge.

Lumina white pumpkins are some of the hardest and best pumpkins for chucking. Some others will chime in also. But at a lot of chunking competitions the luminas are used.

Thanks for the response but I haven't had much luck with luminas. We have an 8" bore and when luminas are this size they typically don't make weight. we usually shoot caspers. Cotton candy's aren't any good for us either. thanks for the reply.

Iron Sides...Pretty and Orange like a small pumpkin hard shelled like a gourd. You can't carve on of these unless you use a grinder.

Allen Straw @ Virginia Tech did seed trials a couple of years ago on hard shell pumpkins some of which he said to be sure and not drop on your foot. Not sure if his research was done at VT or while he was at U of Tennessee.
There is no finer person to work with or talk to.
Google will find him. If you talk to him tell him Dave from Corryton says hi!! lol

Extra applications of Calcium will also make them hard as a rock. This we know from experience. Anything left in the sprayer was applied to those lucky pumpkins on the edge of the field. Worst Jack O Lanterns ever. No Cavity and hard as a rock

Could you tell me what type of calcium was used and approximate rate and time of application.
Thank You

We use Calcium nitrate granular...2 TBS per Gallon sprayed every 2-3 days mixed with molasses, and fish and kelp. Two Gallons will cover on average 1,000 sqf
