John, I have a 654 Troy 01 (940 Mombert 00 x open) for you. Most of the progeny from the 654 are a nice dark orange like its mother. Bob Troy has grown it a number of times and used its pumpkins for carvers because of its nice shape and beautiful color. Its listed as an open pollination but very likely Mother Nature selfed it. It can also sometimes throw a lighter shade of orange like the 758 that Bob Kolb grew.
If you are interested, I can also send you a 306.5 Rys 01 (940 Mombert 00 x self). The 306.5 was the same red/orange color as the 654 Troy with a nice shape.. My brother grew the 306.5 in 02. All the pumpkins on the plant were the same red/orange as the 306.5 and 654. Paul Rys used the 306.5 a lot in his orange genteics program. I have several 306.5 Rys seeds. Anyone who wants to give it a try can send me an e-mail.
In the above post, Ron mentioned the 774 Mombert. I grew a beautiful pumpkin on the 774 in '01 which won prettiest pumpkin at the Weigh-Off. Kirk grew the 774 on the same plant as his 867 (which was more widely grown--- both are the same cross 801.5 x 567.5). I have a 774 available if anyone wants to grow it.......geo. pumpkindudetwo@sbcglobal.net
