Looking for one of these seeds please...or better yet would be if someone planted the 1008.4 Reiss and selfed it again. That would be even better. Best regards, Michel White vitis@vitisearch.com

Michel, in my experience seeds that have been selfed more than once are more likely to display undesireable traits. I would suggest finding another 801.5 x self or 801.5 x sib cross and crossing that with the 1008.4, instead of selfing the 1008.4 Reiss. Or find yourself two 1008.4 seeds and do a sib cross with it. I believe this would give you better results.

Savio, are there any seeds you don't have? Sorry... I'm with Brooks, the Reiss seed should be fine.

I believe the Riess seeds should be fine too. I just wouldn't self it again, unless you don't care about the seeds. If you're looking to isolate the 801.5 Stelts I believe that it would be better to do a sib cross. Or cross another all 801.5 seed with the 1008.4. Tom Beachy has an 801.5x sib seed where the 1049 Koch producing plant was the pollinator, that could be a good one. There are many 801.5 x self or 801.5 x sib seeds. I also like the looks of 553.5 Nesbitt from 2000.
Brooks, I've tried to grow three different twice selfed seeds. I didn't get a mature fruit off any of the three. Two were pumpkins and one was a squash. This could be coincidence but maybe its not.

I appreciate the advice everyone. I obviously loved my 869.5 plant and the looks of the progeny of the 869.5 and 801.5. I was hoping to somehow produce a pumpkin that would have seeds which would produce fairly consistent orange in the progeny regardless of if they are only 500lb. pumpkins to be able to give them away for the cub scouts and other growers who are satisfied with this color and size. Guess I need to study genetics a bit more... Best regards, Michel
