Jeff,
Might as well mention to everyone that they ought to send their seeds along with the bubble packs. You never know who will plant them. I for one like it much more, when I get seeds along with a request, but am always sympathetic to those that have no seeds to give. Everyone that gets requests is usually much more generous to people that wait until all their seeds are dry and send them along.

I have always thought that we sould just send all our bubble packs inside other envalopes that way we could reuse them multiple times.

Tom,,,when you say send seed with request,,,should that be seed from a pkin you grew?? Or should that be some seed from other growers??Only seed I have from a pkin I have grown,, are 143's..I would think that would be an insult..I was seedless when my 378 was cut open this year...So,,would you like some of my 143's?? No genetic background as they were from seed packet...

I am just finishing up my first year and I for one was a little hesitant to send my measily 200# seed to anyone. The seed I used this year were commercial, and not a prominent type like P&P or Dill, so I felt it best not to include any in my requests. Maybe it was a rookie mistake, but I thought it would be a sort of a laughable gesture to send seed from a fruit of unknown origin as small as they were. I was happy with them and many, many local people thought they were great and asked if I would give them seed. I plan on using this years seed to try to get some local folks hooked as I have become this year. Maybe my thoughts are wrong but until I grow something with known genetics, something that has a known background, whatever it is, I am hesitant to offer it to folks that I am requesting seed from, perhaps out of self-concious embarrassment. Next year, when I know the background of what I grow, I will definately offer them up. I just felt really weird offering something to the good people I sent requests to when the seed I planted was from parts unknown.

Just my thoughts..

I don't think offering anyone your seeds is an insult. Whether you grew a 800 pounder or a 100 pounder, you put in a good 6 months of work into that pumpkin. I think they all know that and would be happy to accept them. I did hear from someone who told me that he had so many seeds he couldn't possibly plant them all and don't worry about sending any. Maybe he was just being polite...

But.... I feel a more then a little intimidated by sending a seeds from my pumpkins along with my requests when they go the greats of this hobby like Kirk Mombert or Geneva Emmons.

I guess i'm in worse shape then Stunner! I don't even have seed to offer after two years my patch has been fruitless because of an unknown problem and even if there were seed I wouldn't send it out in case it had something...This is the first year I'm sending seed requests because the new patch will be big enough for four plants never requested seeds because the little patch wasn't big enough to waste good seed in. Hey beach would love some seeds and you make a good point for now on my seed requests will got out with a promise of return of seed from the New Patch..Chuck

Wow, I just brought this up to let everyone know that whatever seed they had could be important. For 2 years I had nothing that anyone wanted. I sent to all the big names, and got seeds. In 1999, I didnt send any from my tiny 373.5 lb pumpkin, becasue who would care? Right? I got about 2 seeds per fruit average. In 2000, I sent seeds from my fruit, and ended up getting about 3 seeds per fruit average. Now of course, that isnt a very scientific study, but at any rate, interesting. Apparently my 373.5 was important to people I sent to.
