Hello everybody !
First I will introduce myself a little bit.
This was my third year as grower , and my biggest pumpkin was , don't laugh , 150 Lbs ...
For next year I would like to use better seeds , so I thought maybe I could buy seeds of the people on bigpumpkins.com .
The color etc. doesn't matter to me !
All I want are very good seeds , with allmost a guarantee that they will be big ( if you take good care of them ! )
So , this was it , did I make myself clear ? ( The only thing I ask are very good seeds to grow a big one , the seeds can even be expansive , if they are really good. But I hope they aren't TO expansive ...

That's all I have to say , I hope there are people who want to help me. I'm allmost sure of that , because I've heard this was a good site , especially for seedexchange !!!

Bye ,
Love Stijn ( Please mail me at stijnclaes007@hotmail.com )
Thanks !

My help to you will be to say that there are, and will be, a lot of good seeds on this website soon---look at the home page under "seeds"---and a lot of growers that will tell you which ones are good to grow!
as far as EXPENSE, pumpkin seeds are FREE, and no one should EVER charge you for anything more than the postage to and from their residence(S)! Most growers are really happy to send out their seeds for nothing more in return than a big "Thank You" and a report of what was grown with their seed(s)! So, good luck with that!

I must disagree with pumpkinpal that you should never have to pay for a seed.

In one way this is true......you shouldn't have to pay for an AG seed if you want something mediocre or are just starting but if you really want a good seed you'll have to pay for one in most cases. There is a basic law of supply and demand and the best seeds cost money. All of the heavy hitters buy and sell seeds all the time and I really disagree with many of the somewhat experienced growers that beginners should start out with mediocre seeds! Many people have grown over 700 lbs. their very first year. Go BIG or stay home as I always say!
Michel in Germany.......with great seeds that weren't Free.

(Limited personal seed sales are not looked down upon by Howard Dill. I spoke to his daughter personally on the phone.)

Hi Supergrower, welcome to this really nice site. Regarding your question, I will only say two things:
1) Nobody, I said nobody, even the best grower can assure you the success with one particular seed. Better chances, nothing more.
2) Nobody in Spain are going to ask you for money. If a have a couple of seed I really believe are the top, I will plant them, not sell them at any price; if I have one hundred, and you like some ones, I will give them to you for free, because I expect you to do the same sometime.
Maybe I think in the old fashion, like an anachronistic spanish hidalgo, but I know a lot of nice people in the States and Canada with the same feelings. Grow'em big (and free)

Just a note on International postage charges.
It costs 92 cents to post a bubble envelope 1 oz or under to Europe.
Overseas growers can buy U.S. stamps online from the USPS website but there is a $6 handling charge on International orders.

I totally agree with Don. Lets keep it a sport and not a business. There are no guarantees that a seed from lets say,the 723 Bobier are going to produce a large pumpkin. The only thing a grower should pay for is the postage and handling.

Dave, don't forget how much it cost in fertilizer, water etc just to try and get a whopper! Great thread folks I believe it is best to stay together as a community of growers who are trying to help each other, not make a monetary profit!

To those who think you have to pay if you want good seeds: if they don´t germinate, do you get your money back or is this pumpkin poker??
I would suggest to buy a seedling instead.....(

I believe that seeds should be free. When you start bringing money into it, you invite fraud as well. There are plenty of scams out there much more elaborate than the simple substitution of a pumpkin seed. Oh you'll get your 845 or 712 for a good price, but will you REALLY??

Theft will be more likely too. For example, PumpkinBrat's seed theft would never had occurred if there was no market for the seed. And it occurred at time when seeds ARE free, so the theft was supported only by buyers who didn't know how to get seeds. Now, imagine that EVERYONE is selling their seeds; what does that 900 lb. pumpkin in your yard (or even your patch) look like?--- $$$$.

Im looking for a 712 Kunh or a 723 Bobier. I have nothing to trade but seeds from my lonely 572. I don't want to spend any money on seeds just looking around to see if anyone responds. :) I would like to show Michel that "hot" seeds might actual still be given away for free and money does not need to come into play. E-mail me if you want to trade...

The regional pumpkin clubs make their money by selling "hot seeds" during their seed auctions....both the "online" as well as at the "live auctions" during their annual meetings.
Those seeds usually bring in well over $100 each. Now, I am not saying that their are no benevolent benefactors out their, but the probability is pretty small.
