well i thought after lurking for a bit i should say hello. i am in south dakota. yes there are people who actually admit to living out in the boonies like SD. i have taken up this hobby / sport now and hope to grow my first large pumpkin next year. i am even getting my fiancee's mom in on it as well. so hopefully from this end we will both do good. alas i will have to start out with my patch about an hour away from where i live.. due to living arraingements.. the landlord said he did not want vies of the AG size running rampant on his property. i do have to respect his wishes. my fiancee's mom has already scheduled for the organic material (compost and dung) to be delivered in the srping and i definately plan on helping her out with the tilling and such. whil ei am unsure if there is an official weigh-off in south dakota.. i will just plan on having fun growing.. well growing while in college for an engineering degree.. and i plan on introducing my college to atlantic giants in a very interesting way.. photos to follow with updates.. i.e. this should be fun.. the college has a webcam and when the whol eplan comes to fruition (no pun intended) i will post the link for that so you all can see
am outta here for now.. i have class in about an hour

You have some pretty good seeds to choose from, no doubt about it. The one that stands out in my mind is the 1020 Kuhn. That is a nice cross. The 430 Bhaskaran should produce deep orange fruit, as well as a number of other seeds you have there. I also like the cross of the 932 McIntyre and the 942 Cox. Good luck!

Din - Just a small blurb of advice... Since you are new grower I would recommend NOT to plant your best seed and maybe wait a season or two.
'03 will be my second season & I will not plant the best seeds that I have. There is still too much to learn and will need at least another year (maybe 2) just to get the soil right. Remember that patch preparation and soil condition is the most important factor in growing a big one. I would save the 1020 until you have some practical experience under your belt. Just my opinion Good Luck.

i think i am going to go with the 585 Kaczenski '02 and cross that with the 552 Saylor '01
and i am thinking of going with 657 Ailts '02 crossing with the 826.5 Walters '01
debating a third cross match but am not sure.. amd kicking around after next season of course.. cross an AG with one of those Blue pumpkins.. just for kicks.. also i was thinking about this last nite.. what if someone were able to implant the glow gene from a firefly in an atlantic giant.. a self glowing jack o lantern. wouldnt that be interesting?
