From reading the auction, it seems like the "good cause" is to pay his bills. Maybe you should give up pumpkin growing for a year or two and get a second job to help pay your bills. You should be ashamed that you requested seeds from some of the top growers and now are selling their hard work for profit. Thanks for trying to screw over those of us that request seeds from top growers in order to grow that seed.
It would be shame to see someone bid up your auction and not pay for it. If I remember right, sellers can't give negative feedback anymore. Hmmmmmm......when does the auction end again?

Agreed, I am in my second year of growing AG's and have spent countless hours talking to growers on the phone and sending email's asking, almost begging for a top grower to allow me to grow a GREAT seed, I meen THERE BEST.. More times than not the growers ALWAYS answered my email but said "sorry", "your new". Or "Join a Club"...And this is the reason why..Dr. There are folks out here busting the @ss trying to get great seeds TO GROW THEM... Cancel your auction and give them away, just like you recieved them.

How about send them back to the grower? Ask the growers if you can donate them to a club, so the club can auction them and raise money. If you want to auction seeds from pumpkins you have personally grown, or seeds that you have purchased, then I am sure people will not have a problem with that. But what if Ron and Pap Wallace and Joe Jutras decide that they are not going to fill as many seed requests due to people selling their seeds to pay bills? You are screwing over a lot of growers that would love the chance to grow a world-class seed.

That would be cool Marty, but you shouldn't have to spend the money for the seeds. He did not pay for some of them, and your club shouldn't have to pay for the FREE seeds he received.

You could always...hold a little raffle here, take all the seeds, post them, take the best offer, split the money, give half to the OAF, half to you.

It's easy to sit back and throw rotten pumpkin chunks at Devan, but we all run into tough spots. Alot of folks are quick to dump on someone who sells seeds, but if it's needed to make ends meet then so be it. In case everyone's been under a rock things are very difficult right now. I guess it's hard for some folks to relate to someone struggling. I see it everyday. A little compassion for your fellow man would be nice.

Doug,
As I said earlier, I don't see a problem with him selling seeds that he has grown or seeds that he has purchased. I have a problem with him selling seeds that he has requested from other growers. Take a look at the 1689 and the 1385 seeds. Joe could sell these easily for $100+ and make a lot of money for himself. But Joe generously sends these seeds out to give other growers a chance at a huge pumpkin. Yes, I understand he may be struggling, but many of us are. Many of us and our spouses work more than one job.

Ya know if this is one way of getting some cash to help support his family in what ever he may be facing so be it. Do you really think it ws an easy decision. I know it wouldn't be an easy one for me to make.

The first bid came in almost as soon as the auction began, a bidder with 0 feedback. The second bid was placed shortly after the start... a bidder with 2 feedbacks and placed a healthy automatic bid. In all of my eBay buying over the years, that type of activity has served as a flag for me. I always thought that the seller was bidding on his own items or had a friend bidding. Before eBay began protecting seller identity, it was easy to tell. I hope these are legitimate bidders.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not siding either way on the issue but I am completely in favor of a fair & legit auction.

I may have to retract my toughts on bidder two....anyone know what time zone BP.com uses to tag our posts? Depending upon which zone is used, it is possible that someone saw the post here then went straight to eBay....
Otherwise, I'm struggling with the thought that someone was searching eBay for pumpkin seeds Thanksgiving morning....

Jeremy?! Are you kidding me?! After all the bashing..... He had a problem with the seller selling them but no problem buying them?! Wonder how many buyers stayed away from the auction based on what Jeremy said?! Didn't Jeremy just help "screw over" the folks he was rallying for?
I wouldn't send the seeds. Or at least hold out the seeds that were given to you, those seem to be the ones that bothered him the most.....

1320,
Yes, I have eaten my share of crow in the past day or two. I have also explained my position to the seller. Take my word: Think twice, post once. I do not plan on growing any of the seeds. Details will come in the next couple of weeks. Participate if you want, bash if you want. -Jeremy

Jeremy, good for you as I imagine that you have bought those seeds to be able to give them to auction to raise money for an actual good cause.
Shelling out over $300 of your own cash for seeds that will hopefully end up at auction, is a nice thing for you to do.
Too bad that they are not going to be easy to verify as the real deal.
