When should one be suspicious of someone, unknown to you, wanting to trade.
In general?

Kyle I Hate to say it before last winter I would have said that there is little to worry about when it came to seed trading. But after the turn of events with pumpkinboy and some other growers I've a seen the darker side of pumpkin growing. First thing if a first year grower has some hard to get seeds to get seeds such as a 723, 846, 875, 801 and some of the older goodies. I would wonder where he or she got them and trace back how they obtained the seed.
It isn't impossible for a new grower to have good seeds becuase there are alot of generous growers out there that like to help new growers.
Secound if the trade seams to be to good to be true it probably isn't true. Hope this helps mark

I ask because I have put a message on the board asking those interested in seeing my seed list to please e-mail me, which many have.
One fellow(I deleted his e-mail which I shouldn't have done) came back and claimed to have some very good seed. My 6th sense went into gear and I questioned him, then he bolted for parts unknown.
I have also had some that tried to get good seed from me without offering much in return but stating claims to the merits of the seed they were offering, unproven merits. I compare this type of activity to the proverbial used car salesman, always pushing the lemons without full disclosure.
If we all want to trade I think the unspoken code of honesty and fairness needs to be forefront of our thoughts and actions.
I personally have no intention of getting conned into giving more than what I get in return. I'll nuke a deal first.
Thoughts from Kyle.

A lemon to one person is the missing indredient in another's crossing experiment. Its real simple...if you dont like the deal dont do it. If you have an unpleasant experience with a person wanting to trade dont trade with him. If you think your being taken advantage of but really want what he's offering then only YOU can decide whether to trade or not and if you make the trade you cant be mad at him for trying to get what he wants either. Its all in your hands.Your reputation is at stake in everything you do, on the other hand you cant please everyone. Beware the deal thats too good to be true...but it might just be the guys a nice guy looking to help out or that he really really needs that lemon. The guy that bolts and disappears...well... thats not a good sign...lol. A "heads up" to your fellow growers privately might be in order there cause more than likely if he crossed the line with you he's doing to someone else too...Reputation is key. There are no guarantees...and there's no rule that says all trades have to be even....no-one forces anyone to say ok. Ive made some dumb trades before in some peoples minds....but I never made a trade where I didnt say ok.........good luck !.....oh, btw...I have your seeds list, but now Im afraid to make a proposal out of fear you'll think Im taking advantage of you....lol......G

Just a kid who thought he couldn't grow a pumpkin unless he had the most expensive seed.
